Pokémon has finally decided to fill out the secret-rare portion of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, and the four-headed palm tree is getting some anniversary love.

Alolan Exeggutor 129/128 is an Illustration Rare illustrated by AYUMI ODASHIMA, and it has the distinction of being the first card numbered beyond the set’s 128-card main checklist.

Yes, the dramatically stretched-out coconut tree gets to kick off the secret-numbered cards.

Alolan Exeggutor Starts the Illustration Rare Lineup

The 30th Celebration has 128 cards in its main set, which makes Alolan Exeggutor 129/128 the first card to break past the standard numbering. Moltres 130/128, Lapras 131/128, Articuno 132/128, Zapdos 133/128 and the rest of the Illustration Rare lineup follow behind it.

So if you’re building a complete master set, Alolan Exeggutor is literally where the fun begins.

I've never been a fan of this particular Pokémon, but the artwork here gives Alolan Exeggutor exactly the kind of treatment you want from an Illustration Rare. This is already one of Pokémon’s strangest designs, so giving its absurd proportions an entire card canvas works considerably better than squeezing it into a normal card frame.

The Card Can Somehow Reach 400 HP

The Illustration Rare uses the same Alolan Exeggutor card found in the main set, and its Scale Up Ability gives it an additional 250 HP when six or more Grass Energy are attached.

Alolan Exeggutor starts at 150 HP.

That means this lanky palm tree can technically reach 400 HP.

Getting six Grass Energy onto a Stage 1 Pokémon is obviously asking a lot, but there's something entertaining about making your opponent deal with a 400-HP single-Prize Pokémon.

Its Mega Drain attack also deals 150 damage and heals 50 damage from Alolan Exeggutor.

I’m not ready to call it the next tournament superstar, but at least the card has something going on beyond the artwork.

How Do You Get Alolan Exeggutor 129/128?

Alolan Exeggutor 129/128 is part of the regular 30th Celebration set and can be pulled from 30th Celebration booster packs when the expansion releases worldwide on September 16, 2026.

We still do not have reliable Illustration Rare pull rates, so I would ignore anyone throwing around exact odds before enough product has actually been opened.

Alolan Exeggutor probably isn't going to fight Pikachu, Mew, Mewtwo or Sylveon for the title of biggest chase in the set.

But as the card that officially starts the Illustration Rare numbering, with a ridiculous 400-HP ceiling and artwork built around one of Pokémon’s weirdest designs, 129/128 has more going for it than I expected.

Not bad for an odd looking palm tree.
