Best One-Touch Magnetic Holders for Sports Cards: 35pt to 180pt

Magnetic card holders are one of the easiest ways to protect and display your better sports cards, but buying the right holder starts with one thing: card thickness.

A standard baseball or football card may fit a 35pt holder, while jersey cards, patches, autographs, and premium memorabilia cards can require 75pt, 130pt, 180pt, or something in between.

You do not need dozens of options. These are the five magnetic holders I would look at first for most sports card collections.

TL;DR: Best Magnetic Holders for Sports Cards

The Pro-Mold MH35S is my favorite option for a normal-thickness sports card because it is designed to hold the card inside a soft sleeve.

That solves one of the biggest hesitations collectors have with magnetic cases. Instead of putting the surface of a Chrome, Prizm, autograph, or other glossy card directly into the holder, you can leave an extra layer of protection around it.

Amazon lists the MH35S as a 35pt magnetic holder made to hold a sleeved card.

Best for: Standard-thickness rookies, parallels, autographs, Topps Chrome, Bowman Chrome, Prizm, and other cards you want sleeved inside the magnetic case.

The Ultra PRO 35pt UV ONE-TOUCH is the simple choice if you want the classic magnetic sports card holder.

It fits standard 2.5 x 3.5-inch cards up to 35pt thick and uses a slide-in hinge with magnetic closure. Ultra PRO also uses non-PVC material, UV-blocking additives, and diamond corners designed to keep the card's corners away from the inside edges of the holder.

For regular Topps, Bowman, Panini, Upper Deck, and similar standard-thickness cards, 35pt is usually the size collectors will encounter first.

If you have more than a couple of cards to protect, BCW's 35pt magnetic holders make more sense as a bulk option.

BCW sells its 35pt holder in larger quantities, including Amazon multipacks. The holder uses a two-piece magnetic design, recessed corners, and fits standard 35pt cards.

This is the option I would look at if you have a stack of rookie cards, numbered parallels, autographs, or PC cards that all deserve better protection than a standard top loader.

Once you start opening products with relics, jersey cards, and patches, a normal 35pt holder may not be close to thick enough.

The Ultra PRO 130pt UV ONE-TOUCH is built for standard-size cards up to 130pt thick. It uses the same magnetic closure, UV-blocking additives, non-PVC construction, and diamond-corner design as Ultra PRO's thinner holders.

Do not assume every memorabilia card is 130pt, though. Check the thickness before forcing an expensive card into any holder.

Some sports cards are absolute bricks.

For jumbo patches and unusually thick memorabilia cards, BCW's 180pt Magnetic Card Holder gives you substantially more room than a standard one-touch.

BCW specifically rates it for cards up to 180pt and describes it as suited for thick patch and autograph cards. It keeps the same two-piece magnetic closure and recessed-corner design used across BCW's magnetic-holder lineup.

You probably will not need a stack of 180pt holders sitting around, but when you pull the card that needs one, a regular 35pt case is useless.

What Size Magnetic Holder Do You Need?

The easiest mistake to make is choosing the holder before checking the card.

A basic rule of thumb:

Those are general categories, not guarantees. Sports card manufacturers use plenty of different stock thicknesses, so measure the card when you are unsure.

BCW currently makes some of the best magnetic card holders for sports cards across multiple sizes, including 35pt, 55pt, 75pt, 100pt, 130pt, and 180pt.

Are Magnetic Holders Better Than Top Loaders?

Not necessarily. They serve different purposes.

A penny sleeve and top loader is still the practical choice for most sports cards. Magnetic holders make more sense when you have a card you want to protect and display individually, such as a key rookie, autograph, numbered parallel, patch, or PC favorite.

They also cost considerably more per card, so there is little reason to put an entire base collection into magnetic cases.

Can You Put a Penny Sleeve Inside a One-Touch?

Usually not in a standard magnetic holder unless that specific holder is designed for it.

That is the main reason the Pro-Mold MH35S stands out. It is specifically designed to accommodate a sleeved card.

With other holders, follow the manufacturer's intended fit rather than trying to squeeze a penny sleeve into a recess that was designed for the bare card.
