Every MTG Star Trek LCARS Shock Land: Complete 10-Card List
Magic is giving some of its most recognizable lands a Star Trek makeover, and the LCARS shock lands might be one of the cleanest treatments in the entire set.
Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek includes all 10 shock lands with special LCARS frames, turning Hallowed Fountain, Steam Vents, Blood Crypt, Breeding Pool and the rest of the cycle into Starfleet-style planetary displays.
Instead of changing how the lands work, the LCARS treatment gives the complete shock land cycle a new Star Trek identity while keeping the original cards underneath. With all 10 already revealed, collectors can see exactly what they’ll need to complete the set.
Every MTG Star Trek LCARS Shock Land
There are exactly 10 MTG Star Trek LCARS shock lands
in Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek. Wizards has confirmed the complete cycle.
What Are MTG Star Trek LCARS Shock Lands?
LCARS shock lands are alternate versions of Magic’s ten shock lands using a special Star Trek LCARS frame.
LCARS stands for Library Computer Access and Retrieval System, the computer interface used throughout Star Trek. Wizards is using that look on 29 regular LCARS frame cards and a separate 10-card cycle of LCARS shock lands.
The lands themselves haven’t changed mechanically. Hallowed Fountain is still Hallowed Fountain, Steam Vents is still Steam Vents, and all ten work exactly like their other Magic printings.
How Do MTG Star Trek LCARS Shock Lands Work?
Shock lands are two-color lands that have two basic land types and can enter untapped if you’re willing to pay 2 life.
Breeding Pool, for example, is both a Forest and an Island. When it enters, you can pay 2 life to have it enter untapped. If you don’t, it enters tapped. The rest of the shock land cycle follows the same basic idea with different color combinations.
That flexibility is what has made shock lands useful across Magic for years.
The LCARS versions simply give the same cards a completely different Star Trek presentation.
The LCARS Treatment Makes Shock Lands Look Completely Different
Shock lands have received plenty of premium treatments over the years, but the Star Trek versions lean hard into the crossover.
Instead of simply putting a Star Trek character in the artwork, Wizards turned the entire frame into an LCARS display and placed a planetary landscape in the middle.
That makes a lot more sense for lands than trying to force a character onto them.
You’re still looking at Hallowed Fountain or Overgrown Tomb, but visually they feel like planets being pulled up on a Starfleet computer terminal.
That also separates them pretty clearly from the standard Star Trek versions of the same lands.
Star Trek Has Multiple Versions of Every Shock Land
The LCARS lands aren’t the only Star Trek shock lands.
Each of the ten also has a regular Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek printing. The LCARS treatment is the premium showcase version, and there’s also a Surge Foil version of the LCARS artwork. Card databases list Hallowed Fountain, for example, with three Star Trek collector numbers: #286, #392 and #487.
That gives collectors three Star Trek versions to choose from:
Regular Star Trek printing
LCARS printing
Surge Foil LCARS printing
If you’re specifically trying to complete the LCARS cycle, the ten cards numbered 392 through 401 are the main checklist.
LCARS Shock Lands Appear in Both Play and Collector Boosters
Unlike some of Star Trek’s harder-to-find treatments, LCARS shock lands aren’t completely locked behind Collector Boosters.
Wizards says nonfoil and traditional foil LCARS shock lands can appear in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.
The Surge Foil versions are exclusive to Collector Boosters.
That gives collectors a few different ways to chase the cycle without requiring Collector Boosters for the standard LCARS versions.
If you specifically want the Surge Foil set, though, Collector Boosters are the only place to find them.
The Full Shock Land Cycle Is Back in Standard
There’s also a gameplay reason this reprint matters.
Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek contains all ten shock lands in the main TRK set, and Wizards specifically called out the complete cycle when revealing the LCARS versions. TRK is Standard legal.
Five of the lands had previously returned through Edge of Eternities, while the other five appeared in Lorwyn Eclipsed. Star Trek puts all ten together in a single Standard-legal release.
That’s useful for players, but it also makes the LCARS versions easier to understand as a collector set.
It’s one complete cycle instead of a random group of lands.
