Every MTG Star Trek Stardates Card Revealed So Far

Magic is turning some of its most recognizable cards into Star Trek characters, and Stardates might be one of the coolest treatments in the entire set.

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek includes 30 Stardates cards, each taking an existing Magic card and reimagining it with artwork from across Star Trek. The first one revealed is Sheoldred, the Apocalypse as Khan, Engineered Evil.

Instead of creating entirely new cards, Stardates gives familiar MTG staples a Star Trek identity while keeping the original card underneath. With 29 more still to be revealed, Khan is only the beginning.

What Are MTG Star Trek Stardates Cards?

Stardates cards take recognizable cards from Magic’s history and reimagine them as Star Trek characters and moments, giving familiar MTG cards new artwork and identities without changing what the cards actually do.

How Do MTG Star Trek Stardates Cards Work?

Stardates cards keep the original Magic card underneath. Khan, Engineered Evil, for example, is still Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, with the same mana cost, abilities and stats.

The difference is the presentation. Sheoldred becomes the Kelvin timeline version of Khan with new Star Trek artwork, turning a familiar MTG card into a Star Trek collectible without making it a completely new card.

Every MTG Star Trek Stardates Card Revealed So Far

Wizards has confirmed 30 Stardates cards, but only one has been revealed so far.

We’ll add the remaining 29 cards here as Wizards reveals them.

Are Stardates Cards Actually Different?

Stardates cards are more than alternate art, but they aren’t mechanically new cards either.

Each one takes an existing card from Magic’s history and pairs it with a Star Trek character or moment. The name and artwork can change dramatically, but underneath it all, you’re still playing the original Magic card. Wizards has confirmed 30 Stardates cards for the set.

That’s what makes the treatment interesting. Wizards can use genuinely recognizable Magic cards instead of filling the sheet with cards nobody was looking for in the first place.

The first reveal makes that pretty clear.

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse becoming Khan, Engineered Evil isn’t exactly a subtle introduction to the idea.

Khan Makes This Much More Interesting

The first Stardates card Wizards revealed is Sheoldred, the Apocalypse reimagined as Khan, Engineered Evil.

That’s a strong place to start because Sheoldred is already one of the most recognizable cards printed in recent Magic history. Stardates doesn’t change what Sheoldred does. It gives the card completely new Star Trek artwork and turns the character into the Kelvin timeline version of Khan.

If the other 29 cards follow the same idea, Stardates could end up being one of the more collectible parts of the entire Star Trek set.

Wizards also says the sheet pulls from a wide range of characters, stories and cards from Magic’s history, so this shouldn’t simply be 30 recent staples wearing Star Trek costumes.

Khan is just the first look at what that could mean.

Stardates Cards Won’t Be Easy to Pull

The biggest catch is that Stardates cards aren’t particularly common in Play Boosters.

Wizards says a Stardates card replaces a common in just **1 out of every 25 Star Trek Play Boosters**. A Play Booster box contains 30 packs, so opening a box still doesn’t get you very far toward completing a 30-card set.

Nonfoil Stardates cards can appear in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, while traditional foil versions are exclusive to Collector Boosters.

That makes this feel much more like a singles collection than something most people are going to complete by cracking packs.

For collectors chasing one specific Star Trek character or Magic card, that probably makes the decision even easier.

Are MTG Star Trek Stardates Cards Worth Collecting?

I think Stardates has one of the strongest concepts among Star Trek’s special card treatments.

You’re getting 30 recognizable Magic cards, completely new Star Trek artwork and characters pulled from across the franchise. You also have a finite 30-card checklist instead of an open-ended group of variants.

The biggest unknown is the other 29 cards.

If Wizards keeps choosing cards on the level of Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, this could become a very interesting set to collect.

For now, Khan is enough to make me want to see the rest.
