Did You Watch the One Piece OP-17 Producer Interview? Here Are the Biggest Things We Took Away

There are reveal videos, and then there are reveal videos where the hosts have to stop every few minutes because they can't believe what they're looking at.

That was pretty much the story of Bandai's producer interview for One Piece OP-17: World's Strongest Warriors.

Producer Shun (Mr. Oya) joined Gavin and P to walk through the set, showing off physical cards, talking about the direction of OP-17, and trying very hard not to reveal more than he was supposed to. The hosts, meanwhile, spent most of the interview alternating between excitement, disbelief, and jokingly questioning whether some of these cards should have ever made it through playtesting.

If you haven't watched the full 26-minute interview yet, here are the moments that stood out the most to me.

One Piece OP-17: World's Strongest Warriors Feels Like the Beginning of a New Era

Before they even started showing cards, one announcement overshadowed almost everything else.

Global release is finally happening.

If you've been around the One Piece Card Game for a while, you know how frustrating staggered releases have been. Japanese players would already know what was coming while everyone else waited months to catch up.

That gap is finally closing.

Honestly, this may end up being more important than any individual card revealed during the interview. Everyone gets to experience new sets together, which should make launch weekends feel much bigger than they've been in the past.

The Shanks Agenda Is Alive and Well

I don't think I've ever seen hosts react to card text quite like they did here.

Every time another Shanks card appeared, Gavin and P looked at Shun like he was trying to break the game on purpose.

"Are you sure this is okay?"

That question came up...a lot.

Whether the cards actually dominate tournament play is something we'll find out later, but one thing became obvious during the interview.

Bandai wants Shanks to feel like an Emperor. Not just in the artwork, but in how he plays.

When your opponent sees Shanks hit the table, the goal seems to be for them to immediately think, "Well...this is going to be a problem."

Mission accomplished.

The Four Emperors Actually Feel Like Four Emperors

Sometimes anniversary sets rely almost entirely on nostalgia. This one doesn't.

Bandai explained that One Piece OP-17 celebrates the fourth anniversary by centering the set around the Four Emperors while tying everything into the current Elbaf storyline.

After watching the reveals, that theme isn't just marketing.

  • Whitebeard looks terrifying.

  • Kaido looks terrifying.

  • Big Mom looks terrifying.

  • Shanks...well, we've already talked about him.

Instead of one obvious chase deck, it feels like Bandai is trying to make each Emperor feel worthy of the title.

The Elbaf Flavor Is Better Than We Expected

One of my favorite moments wasn't actually about a powerful card.

It was about why a card works.

When the hosts kept asking how Black Luffy was ever supposed to reach a 12-cost requirement, Shun calmly introduced Loki.

The trick?

Loki gains +12 cost.

OP-17 Card Reveal

Not because of some random game mechanic, but because giants in the One Piece world are over 12 meters tall. The hosts even mentioned a fan theory that Bandai may be using giant height as a recurring design theme throughout the set. Shun wouldn't confirm it, but he definitely didn't shut the idea down either.

Those little touches make a trading card game feel connected to the series instead of just borrowing its characters.

Collectors Might Have the Most to Be Excited About

Even if you never plan on sleeving these cards up for a tournament, OP-17 is looking dangerous for your wallet.

The interview ended by showing off some of the premium treatments coming in the set.

Super Leader Parallels. Four Emperor Special cards.

A brand-new Haki treatment with layered foil effects that honestly looks unlike anything we've seen in the One Piece Card Game before.

Pictures don't always do premium cards justice.

Seeing them move under the lights during the interview made it pretty obvious Bandai expects these to become some of the biggest collector pieces in the set.

The Funniest Part of the Interview

Poor Blue players.

After almost half an hour of reveals, the hosts finally asked the question everyone was thinking.

"So...where's Blue?"

Shun smiled, laughed, and basically gave the classic Bandai response.

"Look forward to it."

If you've watched enough reveal seasons, you knew that answer was coming before he even opened his mouth.

The One Piece TCG Future is Bright

What I liked most about this interview wasn't any single card.

It was the confidence Bandai showed in the direction of the game.

Global releases are finally becoming reality. Elbaf is getting the spotlight it deserves. The Four Emperors genuinely feel larger than life. Even the card designs seem more willing to embrace One Piece lore instead of treating it as background flavor.

We're still weeks away from seeing the full set, and Shun made it clear there are plenty of reveals left to come. But if OP-17 keeps this momentum going, World's Strongest Warriors has a real chance to become one of the most memorable One Piece Card Game releases yet.
