OP-17 Luffy Pirate Crew One Piece Alt-Art: Card Details & What We Know

The Monkey.D.Luffy Pirate Crew Alt-Art is one of the new premium chase cards appearing in One Piece Card Game OP-17: The World's Strongest Warriors. It features Gear 5 Luffy surrounded by the Straw Hat Crew and is part of a new Pirate Crew Alt-Art pairing created for the game's fourth-anniversary celebration.

There's one detail that may immediately confuse collectors: the card is numbered EB04-061, not OP17. That's intentional. This is a new premium version of an existing Monkey.D.Luffy Secret Rare, not a completely new OP-17 card.

Bandai has paired Luffy with a second Pirate Crew Alt-Art featuring Rocks D. Xebec OP17-118 and the Rocks Pirates. Here's what we know about both cards, how rare the Luffy may be, and what remains unanswered ahead of the English OP-17 release.

What Is the OP-17 Luffy Pirate Crew Alt-Art?

Bandai officially revealed the new Luffy as part of the “Pirate Crew Alt-Art Cards” lineup for OP-17. Gear 5 Luffy appears prominently in color, surrounded by manga artwork of Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook and Jinbe.

The card itself is Monkey.D.Luffy EB04-061, which explains why an EB04 card number appears on a chase card found in OP-17. Bandai is taking the existing Secret Rare and giving it a completely new premium treatment while retaining its original card identity.

There's another Luffy collectors shouldn't confuse it with. OP17-079 Monkey.D.Luffy is a separate Leader card receiving Bandai's Super Leader Alt-Art treatment. If you're looking for the new card featuring Luffy surrounded by the Straw Hats, EB04-061 is the Pirate Crew Alt-Art.

How Rare Is the OP-17 Luffy Pirate Crew Alt-Art?

This is the big question, and right now we don't have a confirmed pull rate.

Bandai is clearly presenting the Pirate Crew cards as premium fourth-anniversary collectibles, but it has not published official odds for pulling Luffy. Early Japanese openings and collector reports can give us clues, but I wouldn't use those to declare an exact English case rate before enough product has been opened.

The same caution applies to comparisons with OP-17's Manga Rares. We don't yet have enough reliable information to say definitively whether the Pirate Crew Luffy is harder to pull than a Manga Rare.

That should change quickly after release. OP-17 prerelease begins August 21, 2026, followed by the worldwide release on August 28. Once stores and collectors begin opening English cases at scale, we'll have a much better picture of where the Pirate Crew cards sit in OP-17's pull-rate hierarchy.

How Many Pirate Crew Alt-Arts Are in OP-17?

Bandai currently showcases two Pirate Crew Alt-Arts: Monkey.D.Luffy EB04-061 for the Straw Hat Crew and Rocks D. Xebec OP17-118 for the Rocks Pirates.

The cards share the same basic concept. Each places its captain in the foreground while surrounding them with members of their respective crew. That makes Luffy and Rocks a natural two-card mini-set for collectors who don't necessarily want to chase every alternate art in OP-17.

It's also a fitting pairing for The World's Strongest Warriors. Instead of treating the Luffy design as another standalone Alt-Art, Bandai has built a small crew-focused collector theme around two of the most recognizable pirate groups represented in the set.

Where Does the Luffy Pirate Crew Artwork Come From?

There's also a cool bit of One Piece history hidden in the card.

The central Luffy illustration has been traced to Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #42 from 2022, while the surrounding Straw Hats use existing Eiichiro Oda manga artwork arranged into the new Pirate Crew composition.

That original artwork also helps explain Luffy's unusual looping arm, something collectors noticed almost immediately after the reveal. The pose was originally created for a different composition, so the arm makes more visual sense when seen in its original context.

It's a neat detail, especially for manga fans, but the bigger collector story is the finished card itself: Gear 5 Luffy and the entire Straw Hat Crew brought together for a new premium OP-17 treatment.

What Is the OP-17 Luffy Pirate Crew Alt-Art Worth?

It's still too early to give the card a reliable English market value. Pre-release listings can show how much hype surrounds a card, but asking prices before widespread release shouldn't be confused with an established market price.

Once OP-17 releases on August 28, completed sales and marketplace data should give us a much better benchmark. The same goes for rarity. Actual English case openings will be considerably more useful than speculation about how difficult the card might be to pull.

For now, we know the important parts. The Pirate Crew Luffy is EB04-061, it appears as a new premium treatment in OP-17, Bandai pairs it with Rocks D. Xebec OP17-118, and its exact English pull rate remains unconfirmed.

That's enough to make it one of the OP-17 cards worth watching as release approaches.
