Mewtwo ex 157/128 Futuristic Rare: Pokémon 30th Celebration’s New YOSHIROTTEN Chase

Pokémon is introducing a brand-new rarity in Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, and Mewtwo ex 157/128 is one of the cards leading the way.

The new Futuristic Rare gives Mewtwo artwork by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN, a secret-set card number and a visual style that looks very different from the usual Pokémon chase card.

Whatever you think of the design, Mewtwo ex 157/128 definitely does not blend in.

What Is a Futuristic Rare?

Futuristic Rare is a new Pokémon TCG rarity introduced specifically with 30th Celebration.

That matters because Mewtwo ex 157/128 is not simply another Special Illustration Rare with a different name.

Pokémon is using the rarity to explore a completely different visual direction. The company describes the Mewtwo card as having a unique texture and style unlike previous Mewtwo cards.

The result is a metallic, almost computer-rendered Mewtwo surrounded by bold colors and geometric design.

If your first reaction is that it barely looks like a normal Pokémon card, that seems to be the point.

Who Is YOSHIROTTEN?

The artist behind the Futuristic Rare Mewtwo is YOSHIROTTEN, who also illustrated the matching Futuristic Rare Mew ex 158/128.

Pokémon has made his involvement part of the story behind the rarity rather than simply dropping his name into the illustrator box. Mewtwo and Mew were specifically introduced as new Futuristic Rare cards featuring YOSHIROTTEN artwork.

That makes Mewtwo ex feel more like an artist-driven collector card than another alternate version added to fill out the secret-rare portion of the checklist.

There is also an obvious connection to the mysterious RGB Mew story, which has also been associated with YOSHIROTTEN.

Regular Mewtwo ex vs Mewtwo ex 157/128

This is an important distinction because Mewtwo ex 157/128 is not a stronger playable version of the card.

The same Mewtwo ex also appears as a regular card in 30th Celebration. The premium 157/128 version keeps the same gameplay but replaces the regular 5ban Graphics artwork with YOSHIROTTEN’s Futuristic Rare treatment.

So if you’re chasing 157/128, you’re chasing the artwork, rarity and collector treatment, not a better version of Mewtwo.

That’s the whole point.

Is Mewtwo ex 157/128 Playable?

Mewtwo ex has 230 HP and two attacks.

Photon Bullets deals 50 damage to each of your opponent’s Pokémon ex.

Psychic Powers deals 230 damage, but Mewtwo cannot attack during your following turn.

There may eventually be competitive interest in the card, but I don’t think gameplay is what is going to drive most collectors toward 157/128.

You can play the regular version.

The expensive-looking one is for showing off.

How Much Is Mewtwo ex 157/128 Worth?

Right now, the responsible answer is:

We don’t know yet.

Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration does not release worldwide until September 16, 2026, so the normal market for the card has not had time to develop.

Early listings and presale numbers can be interesting, but they should not be treated as established market value.

The much more useful price story will begin once large quantities of 30th Celebration packs are actually being opened.

Is Mewtwo ex a Major 30th Celebration Chase?

I think it has all the ingredients.

It’s Mewtwo, one of Pokémon’s most recognizable collector characters.

It introduces a brand-new rarity.

It has a secret-set number at 157/128.

And Pokémon brought in YOSHIROTTEN to give it a design that intentionally looks unlike the usual modern Pokémon chase card.

Some collectors are going to love the futuristic look. Others are going to wonder why their Mewtwo suddenly looks like it escaped from a late-1990s computer graphics demo.

Either reaction is better than being forgettable.

And if Futuristic Rare becomes a lasting part of the Pokémon TCG, Mewtwo ex 157/128 will always be one of the cards that introduced it.
